Seattle Seawolves Clinch Playoff Spot with Pride and Power

The Seattle Seawolves secured their place in the Western Conference Semi-finals with an impressive 42-17 victory over the Miami Sharks this past Sunday at Starfire Stadium.


This historic win was more than just a thrilling competitive moment; it transformed into a heartfelt celebration of inclusivity as the team proudly honored Pride Month. The atmosphere was filled with energy, unity, and significance.


Starfire Stadium had its first sellout for the season, with nearly 4,000 enthusiastic fans filling the stands. The crowd created a lively atmosphere, showing their strong support for the Seawolves as they clinched a playoff spot.


Fans felt the excitement right away, especially with a colorful pride flag color guard that welcomed them. The national anthem, sung beautifully by Miss Washington, filled the stadium and touched everyone’s hearts. During halftime, the excitement continued with a lively exhibition match between the Mudhens and the Seattle Quake, highlighting the importance of community and togetherness.


The Seawolves honored Olive Kilifi as part of the Seawolves Legends program, recognizing his profound impact on Seattle rugby. This distinction celebrates his contributions to sport and his lasting legacy in the community.


As the match started, the Seawolves quickly took control. Malembe Mpofu broke through defenders to score the first try, showing the team’s strong strategy. Jade Stighling excited the audience by weaving through opponents to score two outstanding tries, bringing joy to the crowd. Rodney Iona made nearly every kick, only missing one attempt, while Duncan Matthews, named Player of the Match, added two impressive tries. Dewald Kotze also reached a milestone, celebrating his 50th MLR cap, which made the night even more special.


With the final Western Conference playoff spot secured, the Seawolves are set for an important game against the Utah Warriors on Saturday, June 14 at Zions Bank Stadium in Utah. Seattle fans can watch the game live on Fox 13, ESPN+, or The Rugby Network for those outside the U.S.


Fans eager to join in on the excitement can head to Washington Athletic Club (WAC) Hagerty’s restaurant on Saturday, June 14 at 6:00 PM for an official Seawolves watch party. This is a fantastic opportunity to gather, celebrate, and cheer together in a lively atmosphere.
